AFF to Pelosi: Allow offshore drill vote in the House

Des Moines, IA – The American Future Fund (AFF) today called on Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi to immediately allow a vote to open more areas to offshore drilling.

Roll Call reported yesterday that Pelosi intends to keep offshore drilling on the suspension calendar, while Rep. Neil Abercrombie (D-Hawaii), who is working on a bipartisan working group on drilling, stated, “We’re going to save this Congress from itself. The public is not interested in Republicans versus Democrats on the energy issue. …They are assigning blame to the Congress.”

AFF supports a broad, sensible energy policy, and yesterday praised President Bush’s executive order that allows offshore drilling.

“Congressional leaders have failed to provide a comprehensive energy solution, and the rank-and-file members understand that progress must be made soon,” said AFF Communications Director Tim Albrecht. “We again call on Congress to forgo their August recess if no resolution is achieved by then. We believe, however, that if they acknowledge that there is bipartisan consensus on drilling and alternative energy, the matter will be resolved quickly.”
